Q: Is the hide I get back really mine?
A: YES! Each individual hide is punched with a number code which is matched up with the appropriate customer at the end of the tanning process so the hide you send in is the hide you get back.
Q: How do I get my hides to you?
A: The easiest way is to give us a call and we can arrange a pick-up at your door via UPS.
Q: What are the “Sewing Only” prices?
A: Many of our customers already have finished leather from parents, grandparents, or past hunts. The “Sewing Only” price is to make the item from this leather.
Q: What happens to all of the deer and elk hides taken by hunters every year?
A: The majority of the hides not left in the field for coyotes are sent to China, Vietnam, or Pakistan. Only a small percentage of this valuable resource remains in the US.
Q: What happens to the remaining leather when you’re finished with my order?
A: All leather, from small scraps to full hides, is given to you with your completed merchandise.
Q: Will you do custom items that are not in your catalog?
A: We have a very talented cutting and sewing staff and will be happy to consider any custom items or modifications to our current catalog items.
Q: How much can I get from one deer hide?
A: On average, any 3 of the different mitten, glove, or slipper options can be cut from one deer hide.
Q: How well does your leather wear?
A: In a word: Excellent. There 2 reasons for this. Number 1, deer, elk, and other wild game hides have the highest tensile strength of any leathers. Number 2, our leather is much thicker because we don’t shave it nearly as thin as most tanneries do.
Q: Who does your tanning?
A: We do, of course. Our tannery has been in operation for over 100 years and we are the only full service tanning and sewing operation left in the United States (maybe the world!).
Q: How should my leather be stored?
A: Ideally, it’s rolled up (no folds) and stored in as low humidity as possible. That being said, we have many instances where a customer sends in a 75 year old package of hides rolled up in its original packaging from us and says: “My father just passed away and we found these in his attic…. Can we do anything with them?” Aside from the creases in the hides and the “attic smell” which goes away after a while, the hides are in excellent condition.

Q: What if I don’t have enough hides to make what I want?
A: We’ll be happy to add leather from our stock supply to complete your order. The final cost to you is about the same.
Q: Can I get my order personalized?
A: Yes. We can personalize your order with either custom burning or embroidery.
